This summer, LowellArts! introduces a brand new art event focusing on area youth – the Junior Regional (Art) Competition. On display at King Gallery, 149 S. Hudson, Lowell, from June 5 through July 19, the exhibition will culminate with a Closing reception/Awards Ceremony on Thursday, July 19 from 5-6:30pm. The reception is open to the public.
This exhibit features work from artists ages 13-18 living in Kent, Ionia and Montcalm Counties. Modeled after LowellArts! annual West Michigan Regional (Art) Competition, now in its 26th year, the "junior version" differs in two significant ways: there are no entry fees and no monetary prizes. Instead, a panel of jurors will present Recognition Awards and other prizes including theatre tickets and gift certificates for art supplies and framing, vouchers for art classes and more.
The competition was designed to encourage entries from young people serious about fine art and who have already shown a strong interest in developing their skills. It is a great opportunity for students building their portfolios as well. Sponsors include Kendall College of Art & Design of Ferris State University, Forest Hills Fine Arts Center, Frames Unlimited, Service Reproductions, T-Square Art Supplies and Dick Blick Art Supplies.
Gallery hours are Tuesday – Friday, 10am -6pm/ Saturday 1-4pm. For more information, contact LowellArts! at (616) 897-8545, e-mail info@lowellartsmi.org or visit www.lowellartsmi.org.
