Movies in the Park 2014 - Raiders of the Lost Ark
The official lineup of this year's Movies in the Park is out! The lineup is Films Through Time that will include:
June 6 – Raiders of the Lost Ark
On Friday, June 6, Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. (DGRI) and Friends of Grand Rapids Parks welcome the first night of Movies in the Park 2014 with Raiders of the Lost Ark. The movie will be shown at Ah-Nab-Awen Park projected onto a 3-story screen. Friday night will be the first of a six-night summer film series. While supplies last, DGRI will be giving away free, commemorative posters of the lineup to event attendees.
Pre-movie activities begin at 7 p.m., and the film will start at dusk. Raiders of the Lost Ark is the first film following the theme of "Films through Time." Activities will pair accordingly. Harp Up Horns Big Band will be playing music from the 1930s and 1940s along with classic movie theme songs. The night will also feature a special moment to honor World War II heroes with the 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment.
The lead actor from the Movies in the Park 2014 teaser video, Adrian "A.B." Butler, will be signing autographs. He will also announce the winner of a home projector system. Viewers of the teaser video that correctly identified all six of the films prior to the official announcement have been entered to win a home projector system. More than 60 people guessed all six films correctly.
"As we approach the start of the Movies in the Park season, we're excited to see people sharing the message with their friends and family to come down, bring food and drinks, and enjoy the experience." shared Kristopher Larson, President and CEO of Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. "This is truly an event that brings friends and family together for a fun evening in an unparalleled setting."
In its second year, Movies in the Park, has continued to strengthen its ties with community partners. Friends of Grand Rapids Parks will set up a miniature playground, and the Grand Rapids Public Library will host a scavenger hunt at the park. GMB Architecture + Engineering and Celebration! Cinema have sponsored the night's activities as well. Founders Brewing Co. has provided a $100 gift card that guests will have an opportunity to win. Finally, the community at large will be encouraged to vote on which film they would like to see as the Voters' Choice selection to be shown during the series' double-feature culminating event on August 22.
While at the park, guests are welcome to bring chairs or blankets along with food, wine, and beer. A variety of local vendors will have additional food available for purchase. Vendors will include GoNuts, What the Truck, Daddy Pete's BBQ, Woking Taco, Vito's Pizza, Dorothy and Tony's Gourmet Kettle Corn, Ferris Coffee, and Spoonlickers.
