Beer City USA 2013 Voting
Ten area breweries have joined forces to create #55555513, a new collaborative rye IPA produced just in time for Grand Rapids to compete to save its title of Beer City USA.
Each brewery has produced its own version of the craft beer, which will be offered on tap starting Sunday, May 5, 2013. The #55555513 beer received its creative name from the beer containing 5.5 percent alcohol, 55 International Bitterness Units (IBU), and from the release date (5/5/13). All breweries will use two grains and one hop of their choice using their base malt and rye.
Participating breweries include:
"As Beer City USA, it is very fitting for our breweries and brew pubs to create a beer to help secure the title for the second year in a row," said Doug Small, president of Experience Grand Rapids. "Our local craft beer scene is continuing to grow and people from across the country are noticing it with many of them visiting as a result."
Grand Rapids secured the title of Beer City USA via an online poll in 2012 and will be competing to retain the title for 2013, starting May 6 through 10. A link to voting can be found at www.Experiencegr.com/votebeer.
Experience Grand Rapids pays tribute to the area's craft beer community on its Cool City. Great Beer page. Here visitors can easily find area breweries, local beer events and navigate a craft beer tour throughout West Michigan.
