Party in your Parka is an event designed to showcase both the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex and Celebrate Michigan's 176th Birthday. Watermark Live is pleased to work with the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex to present an event designed to expose Michiganders to the people, places and organizations who celebrate the experiences of these peninsulas through music, art, food, drink, sports, and winter fun. Party in your parka will celebrate Michigan with an all day event and invites everyone to join the party.

We are excited to include an art fair to PARTY IN YOUR PARKA! The "Made in the MItten" tent will offer unique arts & crafts from local Michigan artisans along with live music and important information regarding our sponsors. If you are a local Michigan artist and are interesting in selling your work at the event contact Chantal Johnson at madeinthemitten.artists@gmail.com. Please include your contact info, a link to your website or Etsy shop, photos of your work, and a brief explanation about why you'd like to participate. A small rental fee will apply to all selected artists, fees will be used to support making this event possible. Deadline for all interests is January 4th, 2013 and acceptance letters will be sent out no later than January 7th, 2013. We look forward to promoting Michigan based businesses as well as working with talented local artists that make our state so unique!

Watermark Live and The Muskegon Winter Sports Complex have teamed up with Modern Transportation to provide a shuttle service that will run continuously throughout the day.

Modern Entertainment will get the party started and our feature entertainment for the evening is The Crane Wives. This band is skyrocketing to stardom from it's roots in West Michigan. We're glad they're as excited to celebrate Michigan's birthday as we are. If you have ever caught their show you know how endearingly high energy the crane's can be. Their dynamic performance of inspired folk will leave you with a sore face from smiling and sore feet from dancing.

Support Michigan-based groups who take pride in the state by sharing their experiences and talents and join us on January 26th for a fun filled day of Michigan inspired activities!

10am - Complex Grounds/Activities Open.

11am - 5pm - made in Michigan vendor art fair/tent

1pm - World Snurfing Classic

3pm - 4pm Snurfer Awards offsite and moving people back to the Complex from Block House

4pm - Lounge Area Opens at Luge with Modern Ent. party rocking. Fatty Lumpkin's sandwiches and hot beverages from Drip Drop Drink will be available.

Help us toast the state and celebrate the Mitten - our lounge area will feature a beverage area showcasing Michigan beer and wine. Beer and wine will also be available throughout the day as well.

6pm - Celebrity Luge Race/ Michigan Birthday Ceremony

7pm - 10pm THE CRANE WIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What activities are available at Muskegon Winter Sports Complex?
Ice-skating, Luging, Sledding, Hiking, Cross-Country skiing, Snowshoeing, relaxing!

ADMISSION: Due to the generosity of our sponsors and partners - Admission to this event is FREE!

ACTIVITY LOCATIONS:
All events and activities are held on-site at the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex with the exception of the Snurfer Classic which is held just down the road at the Block House.

On site: Made in the Mitten art Fair - in a heated tent behind the clubhouse.
Clubhouse: Bathrooms, Fire, Concessions, Equipment Rentals, Information

Hot and Cold beverages as well as Michigan's best beer and wine will be available throughout the day in the clubhouse.

Luge area: Main stage, Luge Lounge activities - nightime events

AFTER PARTY: Party Goers are invited to end their evening at the Lake House. The Lake House will stay open late this evening for returning party goers and even smores on the porch.

PARKING: Motor vehicle permit/ recreation passport required to enter. The cost is $10 a year for Michigan residents and is available at Secretary of State when you renew your license plates. For out- of- state vehicles the cost is $8 for a day pass or $29 for a annual/year pass. These can be purchased at the MWSC when you arrive.

SHUTTLE: Don't feel like parking? Looking for a ride in a nice, cozy safe and warm shuttle bus? Modern Transportation will provide a shuttle bus that runs continuously throughout the event. Drop Off/Pick up sites are: Shoreline Inn, The Block House (during the snurfer competition only), Muskegon Winter Sports Complex. Cost to ride the shuttle is a one time fee of $5 per person. www.modern-entertainment.com

Luge Lounge - This is a FREE, ALL AGES party featuring a main stage nestled in the crook of America's only public luge. You can expect a beer garden full of the tastiest beers and wine as well as great hot beverages by Drip Drop Drink. Fatty Lumpkins will be on hand with their unique pop up restaurant offering their sammys, their signature white chicken chili as well as a soon to be released, limited edition birthday sandwich.

An opportunity to meet like-minded Michiganders who are interested in celebrating the past, present, future of the Great Lakes by commemorating the 176th anniversary as a state. To experience the best of what Michigan has to offer via our valuable resources, like the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex. To be intrigued, excited, informed and entertained through the various activities offered throughout the day.

Food: Fatty Lumpkins Sandwich Shack Food: Fatty Lumpkins Sandwich Shack will set up a sandwich bar during the event from 4pm 10pm. Fatty sandwiches are available for purchase as well as their signature white chicken chili and a soon to be released, special, limited edition birthday sammy only available during Party in your Parka.

Concessions will be available in the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex clubhouse throughout the day as well.

Stop in to Fatty Lumpkins Sandwich Shack at their Washinton Avenue location on your way to the party. Their deli is open from 11am - 3pm this day - grab a sammy to go.

The Lake House is also a great place to meet, grab a bite and catch the shuttle to the party.

DRINKS: Local coffee artisans Drip Drop Drink will be selling warm beverages during the celebration just to make sure you stay toasty from the inside out! We will also be showcasing delicious local wines and craft beers from some of Michigan's best microbreweries.

ABOUT THE MEDIA LUGE: Experience the thrill of the luge! This event is open to any media or tourism organization and is designed for novices. Teams consist of two to four people. Your night will begin with instruction from our certified luge coaches. Each person will then get two practice runs followed by two timed runs. The best two timed runs from each team will be used for scoring. Race starts at 6pm and the night will be capped off with an Olympic style award ceremony followed by a live performance from he Crane Wives.

ABOUT MWSC: The complex is operated by the Muskegon Sports Council, a 501 (c) (3) Non- profit organization, in partnership with the Department of Natural Resources, Muskegon Luge Club, and the West Michigan Speed Skating Club. Their mission is to provide quality reliable winter recreational sports activities and programs to both Muskegon County residents and visitors to the area. ABOUT THE SNURFER COMPETITION: The celebration starts with the World Snurfing Classic. In 1968 Muskegon hosted the first ever World Snurfing Classic, a sport created by native Sherman Poppen. This year the Muskegon Winter Sports Complex will revive the honored event just as it was in the 60's. The competition will take place at the Blockhouse Hill in the Muskegon State Park.

ABOUT DRIP DROP DRINK: Drip Drop Drink in Muskegon's only coffee shop dedicated to serving handcrafted drip-style coffee using high-quality artisan roasted coffee beans. They will be open to the public starting in 2013 and will be part of the Russel Block Market project located at 360 W. Western Avenue in Muskegon.
