Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk

Grand Rapids Public Schools in partnership with the City of Grand Rapids is celebrating the

20th anniversary of the Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot 5K Run/Walk by having the race in downtown

Grand Rapids. On Monday, November 12, City Commissioners and Board of Education members announced that the race will have a unique "Stadium Finish".

Just like in the Olympics, the race will end inside. Runners and walkers will enter the Van Andel Arena and cross the finish line in the middle of the arena as they are cheered on by spectators and volunteers.

The course will begin at Van Andel Arena. Participants will travel down Division, cross the river on the Sixth Street Bridge, and take the scenic route by the fish ladder and Ah-Nab-Awen Park, before crossing the Blue Foot Bridge and travelling back towards the Arena and the finish line.

This event is about more than a great course and exciting finish line, though. The Turkey Trot raises important funds to support extensive K-12 athletic programming in Grand Rapids Public Schools. Community members wishing to support athletics without participating in the Turkey Trot can donate at either Grand Rapids Family Credit Union location.
