Thanksgiving Weekend Comedy, Jazz and R&B Bash

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, people are looking forward to spending time with family and friends while enjoying all that downtown Grand Rapids has to offer-from fine dining and spirits to great entertainment. With that in mind, the Thanksgiving Weekend Comedy, Jazz and R&B Bash at the Fifth Third Bank Vault inside Van Andel Arena on Saturday, November 24th at 8pm is a great occasion to enjoy all those great aspects of the city and the holidays in one.

Hosted by Hen Sapp along with Terrance "TJ" Jones, the evening of fun, dance, laughter and good company will also feature the likes of John Gist, J Chill and friends, Mona Sallie, Ken Matthews, Harold Cutts and more. This event is brought to you in part by The Kent County Convention/Arena Authority's Community Inclusion Group.

Doors open at 7:30pm. Tickets are available now for $17.50 in advance and $22.50 the day of show. Several of Grand Rapids' own sons will be out as Hen Sapp is a well-known Christian comedian dubbed the "Doctor of Comedy" with familial ties to Gospel superstar Marvin Sapp.  In 2008, Hen's wit and style landed him a finalist at the national, Heavy Hitters Christian Comedian Competition.  He has preformed and shared the stage with Willie Brown and Woody, Marvin Sapp, Akintunde, Laughing Lenny, Cross Movement and many more.

Harold Cutts, better known by his stage name, Mr. Montana, is another Grand Rapids-native who's played with musicians on all sides of the melodic spectrum, such as R&B, Soul, Funk, Gospel and Smooth Jazz.  He has hit the stage and studio with artist such as American Idols' Shaun Canon, blues singer Mud Morganfield (son of Muddy Waters), Pilgrim Jubilees, Light House Full Life Center  (Gospel Grammy winner/Pastor "Marvin Sapp")  and R&B singers, DeBarge, Grammy Producer/Pianists  Kenneth Crouch  (Baby face, Temptations, Toni Braxton, Lenny Kravitz), Bassist and M.D., John Hart (Gladys Knight, Ronnie Laws, neo-soul star Jon B), Eric Seats (Patti Labelle, La'la Hathaway and Next Great Drummer Showcase).

Jamaal Chilton was introduced producer/songwriter, Jeffrey Valantine, and the two quickly garnered a bond. Valentine, founder of GrandLand Entertainment, took Jamal under his wing. The pair began recording Jamal's debut album entitled "The Return of Song" and with national distribution quickly gained national recognition with features during live tournament coverage on the Golf Channel.  Jamal has since graced the stage and collaborated with R&B and Gospel legends such as Chico Debarge , Joe, Daron Jones (112) and Shirley Caesar. John Gist, born and raised in Grand Rapids, MI. Mr. Gist is an alto, tenor, and soprano, saxophonist who has mastered a wide variety of musical styles which include Jazz, Funk, Blues, R&B, Gospel.
