American Legacies: Preservation Hall Jazz Band & Del McCoury Band

The Preservation Hall Jazz Band derives its name from Preservation Hall, a music venue located in New Orleans' French Quarter. Many of the band's first members performed with jazz pioneers who invented jazz including Buddy Bolden, Jelly Roll Morton and Louis Armstrong. These founding artists have passed on lessons of their music to a younger generation who now follow in their footsteps like the current lineup.

Bluegrass legend, Del McCoury has played music for the past 50 years and The Del McCoury Band continues to gain recognition for their take on this genre. Over the decades, the band has earned three consecutive Male Vocalist of the Year awards from the International Bluegrass Music Association, performed at the Grand Ole Opry in 2003 and won their first Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass album.
