Rick Beerhorst Gallery: Oil Paintings and Works on Paper

Beginning April 4, Pine Rest will display artist Rick Beerhorst's newest work: Oil Paintings and Works on Paper. The exhibit will be located in the Postma Center Leep Art Gallery at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services, 300 68th Street, Grand Rapids.

Through his primary medium of oil on canvas, Beerhorst uses a unique method of applying and removing layers of paint using sandpaper and razor blades to create a rich surface of color and texture. At the end of this process is a semi-realistic impressionistic piece which he describes as radiating "a powerful, otherworldly quality." Beerhorst describes his paintings as being, "firmly rooted in the past that speak in a fresh way to the present. The concerns which inform my work – of family, people's relationships with the earth, the realm of the spirit and each other – are also those which guide my life." His six lively children provide inspiration for his work; the peace and quiet he craves in his personal life he creates in his paintings.

The exhibit will run April 4 through July 2, 2012. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Additional times are available by appointment. There is no admission fee. For more information, please call 616/222-4530.
