Post 179, Fish Fry is a cooperative effort put on by the Legion, Sons of the American Legion and the Auxiliary at Post 179. The Menu consists of All you can eat Alaskan Pollok or Smelt, with coleslaw, french fries, dinner roll and all the requisite condiments necessary for a Fish Fry all for $8.00 for adults children under 5 are free and $4.00 for children under 12. We also have meaty chicken tenders available for the same price for those who may not enjoy fish; prices are the same except that chicken tenders are a single trip item. The Auxiliary of Post 179, bake up many wonderful cakes, pies and cookies for dessert that are offered for an additional $.50 to $1.00 donation. Fish Fry runs from 5PM to 7PM starting on Friday February 24 until and including Good Friday on April 6.

A special evening for our Fish Fry will be on Friday, March 2 where we have made arrangements to have approximately two dozen residents from the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans come in for a free dinner. We have volunteers from Boy Scout Troop 281, that Post 179 sponsors, come in to assist with getting the Veterans from the bus to their tables and bringing the Veterans their meal and soda pop.

Proceeds from the Fish Fry go to assist various activities to support our Veterans and active Military personnel. Some of the things that we have assisted with are, the Star Christmas program at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans, assisted with shipping and handling charges for groups sending packages to Active Duty Military personnel and assisting with home repairs for veterans. Other community activities sponsored are, but not limited to Make-a-Wish and Boy Scout Eagle projects.

Some of our Fish Fry workers have been working the event 20+ years.
