FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Tolerance, Equality, and Awareness Movement (TEAM)
PO Box 68572 Grand Rapids, MI 49516-8572
The Tolerance, Equality, and Awareness Movement (TEAM) will be counter-protesting the internationally known and despised Westboro Baptist Church and their supporters at Grace Episcopal Church. The Westboro Baptist Church is known for condeming America, military families, and LGBT people and using and twisting the Bible for hateful purposes, including picketing funerals.
TEAM understands and respects their right to freedom of speech. However, their language is not conducive to a 21st century human rights agenda, and violates every tenet and value our organization holds. Grand Rapids, MI does not need this type of behavior in its cities, especially after the mass murders of last week and the passing of former First Lady Betty Ford.
The Westboro Baptist Church is intent on protesting Betty Ford's funeral on the grounds that she committed adultery in her first marriage. Let's counter the actions of the Westboro Baptist Church by sending messages of fairness, justice, tolerance, equality, diversity, and acceptance.
TEAM will be encouraging people to come in peaceful protest of the Westboro Baptist Church. Everyone is encouraged to form a peaceful, human chain to protect the Ford family from the hate of this group.

IMPORTANT NOTICE (PLEASE READ IF YOU ARE ATTENDING): "I'm sure there will be a strong police presence at the event. I will be contacting the GRPD to ensure there is a police presence. Any acts that are not peaceful and run against TEAM's Peaceful Human Chain will be up to the police to take appropriate action, up to and including arrest. Furthermore, TEAM is not responsible for your individual actions and encourages peace. In addition, TEAM encourages only people 18 years of age and older to be at this event, as the Westboro Baptist Church members are a known "hate group," as declared by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Youth should not witness the hate of this church. Our community does not need this hate group here. In addition, the human chain must not be disruptive and must be respectful. If you are told to move by police from a particular area, please comply by all orders from authorities. Again, TEAM is not responsible for your individual actions and you agree to comply with this notice by attending the event on July 14, 2011 at 1pm at Grace Episcopal Church."
