*new* Be an extra in the lip dub video. Anyone can take part; the best locations are Rosa Parks Circle and Lyon & Ottawa, but people are also need on Monroe Center, on Monroe in front of Subway/Founders Bank, the Pearl Street entrance of the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel and pretty much anywhere along the lip dub route (Rosa Parks Circle to JW to Amway Hotel to Calder Plaza). Be prepared to arrive Sunday, May 22 at 9:45 a.m. and stay until roughly 3 p.m. Bringing a sack lunch and beverages is recommended.

Rob Bliss has announced his new signature event for 2011: the world's largest Lip Dub video.

The video will be shot along the streets and through the buildings of downtown Grand Rapids and will include hundreds and thousands of residents, local celebrities, musicians, high school students, athletes, mascots and many more.

The song will be 'American Pie', a special live version, not the album version. Lyrics in the song will be tied to specific things happening in the video, i.e. 'I know that you're in love with him' will happen during the wedding scene.

Some of the specific participants and activities included will be the 5/3 Riverbank Run, a wedding, football players, a camerman gets into a helicopter, bridges on fire, crowds of thousands, a pillow fight, a chalk flood.

Official description from Rob Bliss:

On Sunday, May 15th, starting at 10AM, come downtown to be an extra in an enormous LipDub video being filmed in Downtown Grand Rapids, all to promote our city by potentially millions of people around the world!

LipDub: A lip dub is a music video done in one, unedited take featuring participants lip-syncing to a chosen song and audio dubbing.

After the whole Newsweek "Grand Rapids is a dying city" fiasco, lets make a promotional video for our city that makes us look like the most amazing, fun, LIVELY place to live, visit, and work.

Weddings, Marching Bands, Choirs, Motorcades, crowds of thousands, football games, dancers, parades, bridges on fire, metro cruise cars, confetti falling from windows, pillow fights, a concert, helicopter take offs and every known face and name all in the streets of Downtown Grand Rapids. The song everyone will be lip-syncing is Don Mclean's American Pie.

We start at 10AM and will continue until around 6PM, bring a BIG sack lunch! Just come downtown and we'll direct you where you need to be.

Filmed by professional production company Creo Productions. If you're interested in being a part of the crew, we are looking for both paid and unpaid crew members, email us at

Also, we're looking for a few specialized groups, particularly a chevy pickup driver/owner, girls who could dress up like it's the 1940's, and guitar players. Email me at if you're interested.

We are also looking for sponsors interested in our generous sponsorship packages, please email at
